| ORGAN OF THE MONTH 35: May 2005
Our "organ crawl" to Kidderminster earlier this year ended with a visit to St George's, where the organ was recently rebuilt and extended by Trevor Tipple. The church originally housed an early 19th century West End organ by Hill, but this was later moved to a ground floor location in the North Aisle. Along with most of the church, this instrument was destroyed by a major fire in the early 1920s. The present instrument, situated in the North-East corner with the console high above the choir (see left picture), is a fine example of the work of local builder Trevor Tipple. The building is further enhanced by the large and beautiful stained-glass window that dominates the East end. |
