Specification

The history of St Modwen, an Irish noblewoman, goes back to the 7th century, and there has been a succession of religious buildings on or near this site since then including, from 1002, Burton Abbey.  The present Grade I listed building dates from 1726.

There was a Snetzler organ here from the 1770s. The current HNB instrument incorporates pipework from a 1871 Hill organ that was removed from nearby Holy Trinity church in 1972.
