2015
What were BOA members up to in 2015?
Date | Venue | |
02 Dec 15 | Moseley Golf Club | Christmas Dinner with Worcestershire Organists Association Following a splendid meal in a private function room, our guest after-dinner speaker was IAO President PETER KING, director of music at Bath Abbey, who entertained us with amusing anecdotes of performances with the CBSO under Simon Rattle and a recital in Cologne Cathedral. |
18 Nov 15 | St Mary's, Moseley | Improvisation in a liturgical context Our president MICK PERRIER presented this session to help those of us who have to "fill the gaps" in worship. He was supported with demonstrations from JOHN PRYER, a famed exponent of the art of improvisation. |
12 Oct 15 | St Faith & St Laurence, Harborne | Annual Service This year's service was a Choral Evensong directed by BOA member SIMON PALMER, who was celebrating 35 years as Organist & Choirmaster at St Faith & St Laurence. The introit O fear the Lord was by David Bruce-Payne, and the anthem Walk humbly with your God was by Malcolm Archer. The organist was David Griffiths, who chose Fugue by Jacques Ibert as the closing voluntary. |
19 Sept 15 | Broadway URC, Walsall | 25th anniversary recital by Daniel Bishop BOA was responsible for promoting this event, which was part of OrganFest 2015, organised jointly with BIOS, the IAO and the RCO. Daniel Bishop plays the country's largest organ - the Willis in Liverpool Cathedral - and provided a typically Liverpool programme of accessible music to mark the 25th anniversary of the construction of Broadway URC's organ. |
8 Aug 15 | Shrewsbury | Visit to Shrewsbury Sunshine greeted our arrival in Shrewsbury where we were welcomed at St Chad's by Tony Pinel, and spent the morning playing & listening to the organ recently restored by Harrisons to very good effect. After lunch, we were introduced by Bill Smallman to the large Binns organ in St Mary's. Those brave enough ascended the very steep & narrow open spiral metal staircase to the console. |
27 Jun 15 | Leicestershire | Visit to the workshop of Peter Collins Ltd and Ratcliffe College The weather provided us with a glorious summer's day for our Leicestershire visit, starting with a fascinating insight into the work of Peter Collins Ltd (including a pipe-making and voicing demonstration) and an opportunity to play a newly-installed hybrid organ by Alan Goulding in nearby Ratcliffe College. |
18 May 15 | St Chad's Cathedral | Tribute to Dr John Bishop (1935-2013) A recital on the famous Walker organ including music by Bach, Brahms, Duruflé, Parry and Reger, by Professor David Saint and Nicholas Weare, respectively a former colleague and a former student of Dr Bishop, who was a Past President of BOA and a former Principal & Head of Organ Studies of Birmingham School of Music. |
18 Apr 15 | Christ Church, Coseley | Two Black Country organs |
21 Mar 15 | Emmanuel, Wylde Green | AGM and annual recital |
25 Feb 15 | Broadway URC, Walsall | Social Evening & Quiz |
